Sitting in the centre of the state, Nagaon occupies a vast area and is considered one of the largest districts of Assam. It is also the most populous district of of the state. The River Kolong, a tributary of Brahmaputra, flows through the heart of Nagaon dividing the district into two parts- Nagaon and Haiborgaon. Nagaon is also the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.
Samuguri Beel also known as Pokhi Tirtha located some 16 km from Nagaon town is a heaven for birds.
If you are fond of ornaments, a visit to Ranthani Village, famous for Assamese gold plated ornaments can be rewarding. You might be lucky enough to buy some pieces of ornaments at a cost three times lesser then the amount in a jeweler’s shop in the city.

Haiborgaon Railway Station connected to Guwahati by a passenger train is the nearest railhead. However, Chaparmukh Junction (22 km /30 mins) is the closest major railway head connected to different cities.
NH37 connects Guwahati and Nagaon. There are plenty of Government as well as private buses from Guwahati to Nagaon and vice-versa.
