Reckoned to be the cultural capital of Assam, Jorhat is a unique blend rich history and modernity. It was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom and today is one of the most important cities of Assam. Jorhat is home to the largest and the oldest tea research centre- Tocklai Tea Research Centre. A visit to Raja Maidam in the city will take you back to the pages of history. This is a vault that preserves the remains of the Ahom King Purandar Singha.
The age long Gymkhana Club, started as a recreational space for the British tea planters, still stand tall in Jorhat. The nine-hole parkland style golf course here is the major attraction. This golf club is the oldest in Asia. Besides these, Gymkhana club has lawn tennis courts, swimming pool, polo, gentlemen's bar, and a theatre.
Located in the heart of the city is the Burigosain Than. Burigosain is the presiding deity of the temple.
Besides, places like Lachit Borphukan's Maidan, Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar, Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, located at the outskirts of Jorhat city are some must visit spots.
