A Thoughtful Journey across World’s largest inhabited river Island

Majuli Island, located in the trans-boundary River Brahmaputra, is an incomparable beauty that stands against the time. The island faces flood fury – and the threat of erosion – whenever the mighty Brahmaputra swells. Take a break from your high-tech lifestyle and hop on that double-decker boat to live the simple life in the world’s largest inhabited river island before it loses the title. Majuli is considered as one of the ideal place in entire northeast India for an authentic village experience and a real cultural immersion.

Majuli Sustainable Tourism Development Project (MSTDP) is an initiative of Root Bridge Foundation, supported by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDCL) to promote cycle tourism in Majuli river island, and make the island a better place to live and visit.

Cycle Tourism in river island is one of the main activities of MSTDP. Travelers can hire modern MTB bicycles from Majuli Cycle Café located on the island and also can participate in different daily cycle tours, activities and workshops conducted in different parts of the river island. The project is also aimed at supporting the Assam government’s initiative to make Majuli as India’s first Carbon-Neutral district.
