The Amazon of the East

Referred to as ‘The Amazon of East’, Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary has the only rainforest in Assam. An unexplored terrain, this rainforest spreads across Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sivasagar districts of Assam and also stretches till the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The major attraction of the sanctuary is its orchid diversity with more than 100 species, out of which eight are critically endangered. Home to around 30 species of butterflies and more than 290 species of birds, this territory is also a home to large number of reptiles, elephants, tigers, leopards, golden cats, hoolock gibbons, etc.
